Bathing Place at Portumna is classified as achieving Excellent Water Quality in 2025 based on the assessment of bacteriological results for the period 2022 to 2025. Bathing Place at Portumna has achieved an Excellent Water Quality rating for the four consecutive years 2022 to 2025. Annual water quality ratings are generally calculated using monitoring results over a four-year period and are assessed against stringent bacterial limits to protect bather health.

Portumna bathing water is a pleasant well maintained facility used throughout the year. It is situated in a shallow area of Lough Derg near the town of Portumna. This is an important lake in Ireland for waterfowl. Lough Derg is an area of conservation because of its numbers of fish and freshwater invertebrates. Activities around the bathing area and lake include sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, angling and horse riding.
