About this bathing water

Ballycuggeran bathing area is sandy and extends approximately 80m along the shoreline of Lough Derg Special Protection Area. The shoreline in the vicinity of the bathing area is fringed with swamp vegetation. Lough Derg supports a vast variety of birds and fish species. Lough Derg is a popular lake for swimming, sailing and wind surfing. It is also popular for fishing. Beach bye-laws are in place with horse riding and dogs prohibited between 11am and 6pm during the summer season.
